7 7 To setup a custom virtual host, we need to follow these steps:
8 8
9   ===Allow virtual hosts===
10   By default, Apache2 won't use the ##/etc/apache2/vhosts.d/*.conf## files (the location of the virtual hosts), therefore we need to indicate that this file will be included during the runtime of Apache.
  9 ===Check if virtual hosts are allowed===
  10 By default, Apache2 uses the ##/etc/apache2/vhosts.d/*.conf## files (the location of the virtual hosts, one configuration file per virtual host in /etc/apache2/vhosts.d/), therefore per default we do not need to indicate that this file will be included during the runtime of Apache.
  11
  12 See: /etc/apache2/httpd.conf:
  13 %%
  14 cat /etc/apache2/httpd.conf
  15 %%
  16
  17 See uncommented?
  18 %%
  19 IncludeOptional /etc/apache2/vhosts.d/*.conf
  20 %%
  21
  22 ===Create a custom domain in the hosts file of your system====
11 23
12 24 Once you have installed and checked the status of Apache, go to its Web-root directory and create a new directory as mentioned below.
13 25 %% cd /srv/www/htdocs/ %%
16 28
17 29 Create a new file in the above mentioned directory by using the following command.
18 30
19   %% echo -e '<html>\n<html>\n\t<body>\n\t\t<h1>MyWiki Works!</h1>\n\t</body>\n</html>' > /srv/www/htdocs/myproject/index.html %%
  31 %% echo -e '<html>\n<html>\n\t<body>\n\t\t<h1>Welcome World!</h1>\n\t</body>\n</html>' > /srv/www/htdocs/myproject/index.html %%
20 32
21 33 Create a new virtualhost configuration file in the below mentioned directory and configure it as follows.
22 34
23 35 /etc/apache2/conf.d/vhost.conf
24 36
25 37 %% sudo su%%
26   %%echo -e 'DocumentRoot "srv/www/htdocs/site1"\nServerName "www.linuxhelp1.com"' > /etc/apache2/conf.d/vhost.conf %%
  38 %%echo -e 'DocumentRoot "/srv/www/htdocs/myproject"\nServerName "myproject"' > /etc/apache2/conf.d/vhost.conf %%
27 39
28 40 Did it work?
29 41 %% cat /etc/apache2/conf.d/vhost.conf%%
31 43
32 44 You should see
33 45
34   %% DocumentRoot "srv/www/htdocs/site1"
35    ServerName "www.linuxhelp1.com" %%
  46 %% DocumentRoot "/srv/www/htdocs/myproject"
  47  ServerName "myproject"
  48  %%
36 49
  50 ===Edit configuration file===

  52
  53 %% sudo cp /etc/apache2/vhosts.d/vhost.template /etc/apache2/vhosts.d/myprojectvhost.conf %%

  55 Example configuration
  56 %%
  57 <VirtualHost *:80>
