7 7 To setup a custom virtual host, we need to follow these steps:
8 8
9   ===Allow virtual hosts===
10   By default, Apache2 won't use the ##/etc/apache2/vhosts.d/*.conf## files (the location of the virtual hosts), therefore we need to indicate that this file will be included during the runtime of Apache.
  9 ===Check if virtual hosts are allowed===
10 By default, Apache2 uses the ##/etc/apache2/vhosts.d/*.conf## files (the location of the virtual hosts, one configuration file per virtual host in /etc/apache2/vhosts.d/), therefore per default we do not need to indicate that this file will be included during the runtime of Apache.
  11
  12 See: /etc/apache2/httpd.conf:
  13 %%
  14 cat /etc/apache2/httpd.conf
  15 %%
  16
  17 See uncommented?
  18 %%
  19 IncludeOptional /etc/apache2/vhosts.d/*.conf
  20 %%
  21
22 ===Create a custom domain in the hosts file of your system====
  23
  24 Change to user root
  25 %% sudo su%%
11 26
12 27 Once you have installed and checked the status of Apache, go to its Web-root directory and create a new directory as mentioned below.
13   %% cd /srv/www/htdocs/ %%
  28 %% cd /srv/www/%%
14 29
15 30 %% sudo mkdir myproject%%
16 31
  32 %% cd /srv/www/myproject %%
  33
  34 %% mkdir htdocs%%
  35
17 36 Create a new file in the above mentioned directory by using the following command.
18 37
19   %% echo -e '<html>\n<html>\n\t<body>\n\t\t<h1>MyWiki Works!</h1>\n\t</body>\n</html>' > /srv/www/htdocs/myproject/index.html %%
  38 %% echo -e '<html>\n<html>\n\t<body>\n\t\t<h1>Welcome World!</h1>\n\t</body>\n</html>' > /srv/www/myproject/htdocs/index.html %%
20 39
21 40 Create a new virtualhost configuration file in the below mentioned directory and configure it as follows.
22 41
23 42 /etc/apache2/conf.d/vhost.conf
24 43
25 44 %% sudo su%%
26   %%echo -e 'DocumentRoot "srv/www/htdocs/site1"\nServerName "www.linuxhelp1.com"' > /etc/apache2/conf.d/vhost.conf %%
  45 %%echo -e 'DocumentRoot "/srv/www/myproject"\nServerName "myproject"' > /etc/apache2/conf.d/vhost.conf %%
27 46
28 47 Did it work?
29 48 %% cat /etc/apache2/conf.d/vhost.conf%%
31 50
32 51 You should see
33 52
34   %% DocumentRoot "srv/www/htdocs/site1"
35    ServerName "www.linuxhelp1.com" %%
  53 %% DocumentRoot "/srv/www/htdocs/myproject"
  54  ServerName "myproject.example.com"
  55  %%
36 56
  57 ===Edit configuration file===
  58 https://de.opensuse.org/Apache
  59
  60 %% sudo cp /etc/apache2/vhosts.d/vhost.template /etc/apache2/vhosts.d/myprojectvhost.conf %%
  61
  62 Example configuration
  63 %%
  64 <VirtualHost *:80>
  65        ServerName myproject
  66        ServerAdmin webmaster@localhost
  67        DocumentRoot /srv/www/vhosts/myproject
  68        <Directory /srv/www/vhosts/myproject>
  69                Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews
  70                AllowOverride None
  71                Require all granted
  72        </Directory>
  73        ErrorLog /var/log/apache2/error_log
  74        LogLevel warn
  75        CustomLog /var/log/apache2/access_log combined
  76        ServerSignature On
  77 </VirtualHost>
